G'day all,
I am thinking of organising a nice easy weekend walk in mid to late
June. I am thinking of doing it either on Sat / Sun 20 / 21 or 27 /
28 June. I still need to sort out work at my end to make sure I am
free but thought I would put it out there to see who is interested and
which weekend works best. Once I know that I will lock it in.
As for the route, I am thinking a walk out Narrowneck, down Walls
Pass, camping at Cedar Creek then out via the Ruined Castle on Sunday.
Each day will only be about 4 or 5 hours walking, so plenty of time to
enjoy the views and explore a really beautiful creek.
The advantage of the walk is that there is heaps of clean drinking
water in the creek and a huge overhang / camp cave so tents aren't
required unless desired, so nice light packs.
For those of you keen to look at the map, you walk to the fire tower,
east on the old fire trail then north along a slight ridge to Walls
Pass where you scurry down a a 15 metre slab of rock (which has plenty
of hand and foot holds) using chains, stroll out to Cedar Head which
is really pretty, then down to Cedar Creek to camp. On Sunday the exit
is along a nice, green, moss-covered creek, then a little bit of scrub
bashing with the potential for lawyer vine, then on to the Mt Solitary
track. A quick detour to Ruined Castle for some lunch, spectacular
views and the chance to check out exactly where we walked, then back
to the cars nice and early.
The obvious plus of the route is that it is short (an easy day walk)
and only requires light packs so there will be plenty of time to chill
out around the creek, have a nice fire, partake of some fine booze and
we can more leisurely pace.
Cheers
