Hi all,
After enjoying the many tales of fallen war heroes, and bushfires in 1957,
there were some points of interest at the Confederation meeting last night:

First Aid
The Bushwalkers' Wilderness Rescue Squad has a couple of first aid courses
coming up. If you do not have current first aid qualifications, these are
highly recommended.
Senior First Aid: 23-24 May.
Remote Area First Aid (HIGHLY recommended): 8/9 and 22/23 August. This also
includes senior first aid.

Visit the website at www.bwrs.org.au for more details and registration.

Activity Adventure Standards (AAS)
The confederation is liaising with the Outdoor Recreation Industry Council
regarding the adoption of "Activity Adventure Standards". These may have
significant liability and insurance impacts on bushwalking clubs. The
confederation is seeking feedback. If you are interested, let me know any
comments or feedback. I hope to submit something to the Confed in the next
couple of weeks. For more general information see:
http://www.oric.org.au/AAS-NSW/index.html (NSW - general info only)
http://www.orc.org.au/aas/index.htm (Victoria - they have completed and
published their AAS - give a good idea of what may be included)

Hunting in State Forests
Be aware that hunters are permitted in some state forests. It is not always
possible to ascertain if there will be any in the area before going walking,
so please take care. For more information, see the NSW Game Council
website. http://www.gamecouncil.nsw.gov.au/

NavShield
The 2009 NavShield will take place on the weekend of Jul 4/5. Similar to a
rogaine, this is a bush navigation training event for emergency services
(including bushwalking clubs). I'm interested in putting together a team,
and will send a separate email about this. Details are at www.bwrs.org.au

Cheers,
Mitchell
