Are you tired of your boring quiet life?. Plain old walking no longer
excites you?
You should try kite surfing!
The general idea: you stick a harness around your waist, an inflatable
4/5-line kite in the air, and a board on your feet. Look up a few videos
on youtube for examples.
And the specifics: Get hire + couple of hours' lesson to give it a go, and
learn the basics without drowning.
Common questions:
What about the Usyd wake club?
They're not doing much at the moment (look at their calendar).
Do I have to be fit?
Yes. Minimum prerequisites would be experience wakboarding/surfing, the
ability to swim 200m without feeling tired, and a good understanding of
how to fly at least a 2-line kite. No I-can'ters please.
Can you detach from the kite/board?
Yes, to both. Additionally, the kite has several depower and safety
release mechanisms.
How much?
Three figures, the first of which being '1'. Depends on numbers. All gear
(helmet, kite, control bar, harness, board) supplied. Bring your own
wetsuit if you wish.
Where?
Maybe Forster. There could be camping involved.
Roughly the same cost and skill level required as a SUBW ski trip. If
you've ever been on one, and found you didn't like it, this is more of the
same sort of fun. If that didn't dissuade you, get in touch, and we'll
discuss possible dates in the next month.
Andrew.
