Hi all,
Yes that's right, Suboir United Bushwalkers Incorporated officially exists,
as of July 21!!
While we have no legal obligation to hold an AGM until late next year, I
propose we tack a short section on to the AGM / slide night which is next
week (Wednesday July 30th), in order to appoint the initial committee, and
adopt a child protection policy, and a risk management plan, in order to
satisfy requirements for affilliation with the NSW Confederation of
Bushwalking Clubs. I can give a short 5 min presentation on the structure an
our obligations, if it suits people. We should fill positions of President,
Secretary, Treasurer, we can also elect additional committee members if
desired, and we should also appoint a child protection officer.
What does this mean? Well, if you're not an access card holder, I would
strongly encourage you to join the association. Following affilliation with
the NSW Confederation of Bushwalking Clubs (which is likely mid-late August,
you will be covered for personal accident and public liability insurance. If
you spend time on Campus at Sydney University, you might like to consider
getting an access card, and joining the University-affiliated Sydney
University Bushwalkers, which offers greater benefits, including FREE
membership with the new, incorporated association. (if you ARE an access
card holder - you are better off joining the Sydney University Bushwalkers)
Please note, that while the new incorporated association has no obligations
to the University, the Union, or anyone like that, one of the main stated
objects of the club in our rules, is to "support and foster the activities
of the Sydney University Bushwalkers".
How to join? We can officially register members now - I'm hoping to do as
much administration online as possible. Fill out our membership form, which
will be posted online soon, and email it to me. If you can't wait until it's
posted online, I can email you a copy on request. Money - membership is $30,
preferably you can wait until we have our bank account set up (should be by
next week), or if you're impatient you can transfer into my bank account
(and yes, I can issue a receipt). I'm hoping that as much as possible
financial transactions will be conducted online.
Beyond that, there's nothing you HAVE to do, although any offers of
assistance (our needs are minimal at present) will be gratefully received.
Current administrative tasks required:
- Open bank account
- Have common seal (rubber stamp) made
- Adapt child protection policy to our needs (almost done)
- Adapt risk management policy to our needs (Confed have a form copy)
- Set up page on the website where our forms and rules can be downloaded,
and info on joining can be found.
- Anything else anyone would like to do.
Cheers,
Mitchell
