In January 2001, a research team, consisting of Archaeologists,
Aboriginal
Community members, Bushwalkers and Park Rangers, began a study that
aims to
better understand the relationship between Blue Mountains World
Heritage cultural
heritage, especially rock-art sites (drawings, stencils, paintings
and engravings), and
that of other parts of New South Wales and to describe culture change
in Wollemi
National Park over the past few thousand years.
Wayne Brennan co director of the project will be talking about the
teams work in the
Wollemi and the extensive ongoing community consultation and
participation. He
will also be highlighting some of the results of his work of the
past twenty years in
the Blue Mountains as well as introduce some discussion about some
very recent
finds by the team.He will be joined by a special guest Graham King-
Davis a major
partner in the Wollemi Rock art project and a local Blue Mountains
artist.
Besides scientific significance, the results have profound social
significance for
Aboriginal stakeholders and are of great value to park and World
Heritage Area
managers, interpretation officers, tourists and others with an
interest in Aboriginal
culture, rock-art and the World Heritage Area.
