Hi all,
Dave Lee informed me he may have to work on the weekend that he organised
this trip.
I'm still happy to run the trip myself so refer to the details below and
email me if you are interested.
Cheers,
Pete

I know it is getting a bit late in the year for canyoning, but I thought I
would offer those new to the club the chance to get a taste of the blue
mountains canyons and a bit of abseiling practice before winter sets in. To
that end I am running a beginner canyoning trip saturday and sunday the
12th-13th of april to the wonderful Newnes Plateu. The canyons will be all
dry and relatively easy, so no experience is necessary.

Day one will involve a trip down to Deep Pass canyon, with no swims (you
will get wet feet though) followed by lunch and the exploration of some
nearby caves and crevasses. After this, we will drive to the campsite and
set up camp, then do a bit of abseil training from a nearby pagoda. As the
sun sets we will walk down through Wolgan View canyon (Dry, easy, but
impressive) to a lookout and drink beer/wine/eat snacks till it gets dark,
then head back up through the canyon and admire the glowworms before
returning to the campsite and having some more food/wine/beer.

Day two will be Tigersnake canyon, which has several easy abseils up to 25
metres but no swiming (your feet will still get wet though) then head back
to Sydney, probably stopping for dinner on the way

If enough people sign up, there is the option of splitting up the group and
some people doing more difficult canyons, so bring a wetsuit if you have
one, and we will see what happens...

Things you will need to bring:

-money for petrol/dinner/beer etc.
-warm clothes to wear around the campfire
-warm clothes to wear while canyoning (a wetsuit as well if you are up for a
wet canyon)
-Shoes with good grip that will get wet (sneakers with good grip are fine,
Dunlop volleys are ideal)
-dry shoes for around the campfire
-beer
-hat and sunscreen/sunglasses
-raincoat (just in case)
-Torch (headtorch preferrably, but any will do as long as you have
batteries)
-a small backpack to carry your lunch and warm clothes
-food (1 breakfast, two lunches, one dinner. we will have a campfire for
dinner, but you can bring a stove to cook on if you prefer.)
-cooking/eating utensils
-toilet paper
-beer
-beer
-sleeping bag, sleeping mat, tent
-anything else you want to bring
