[SUBW-A] Mid Semester break trip to East Gippy.

East Gippsland – 23rdto 30th of September.Greetings All,This is an amazing opportunity to experience front line activism, protect native old-growth forest and spend a week in one of the most beautiful parts of Australia.This sensitive region is vitally important, with the areas being logged included the Snowy river water catchment system and the border of Errinundra national park, with clearfells up to 120 hectares in size containing plant and animal life that are critically endangered, and as there has never been an evaluation of these areas so we are logging the unknown, especially as this is a warm temperate, cool temperate crossover area with its own unique flora and fauna. Most of this virgin native rainforest becomes woodchip then Japanese paper.What will be happening in East GippslandSkill sharing will be a major focus of the week – essential for running any environmental campaign in Australia. We will learn how to tree climb, how to build blockading structures and general bush survival skills.In terms of actions that will take place – this is Dependant on scouting and seeing what is possible. It will work by a consensus based organising structure, so if people want trouble then their will be trouble.Blockading and good old protest.Possibilities include, entering into coups and stopping logging, chipping mill action, a protest at the department of forestry. We will be camping at Ellery Creek Camp Ground, which is situated in this most pristine area, with creek running very drinkable water. There are great places to hike and see some of the oldest and largest trees in Australia. You can also play with baby wombats or try to ride a pony.Petrol costs will be pooled and food will be provided so the cost will be between $50 - $80 (as petrol costs are not yet known) – with subsidies for those who are in financial difficulties (so money is not an excuse to not come down).Ben’s truck will be heading down on the 22nd – so any tents, sleeping gear and packs that you want to take down can go down then to maximize room in other vehicles.So fuck everything else off and come down, and if you can’t do that because of something like court, come down after all that’s finished.It will be well worth it. And tell your friends as well! There are mobs coming up from Melbourne and Brisbane, so it would be embarrassing if Sydney and the rest of NSW can't put together a big crew.There will be a vehicle heading back on the 26th so if people need to head back early that can be arranged.Please let me know by email ASAP. We also need vehicles – if anyone has a car or license this will be gold.
