If anyone is interested, I'll be heading down to the snow for the last time
next weekend (13-14th October). I skied two days ago and the snow was
surprisingly good up high.
Next weekend the plan is to leave either late Friday night or early
Saturday morning and drive down to Dead Horse Gap. We'll hit the snow pack
after about half an hour walk up the ridge. From there we have several
options including skiing over to South Rams Head, Kosciuszko or even as
far as Townsend and Lake Albina. I'm quite flexible on the destination
since the emphasis will be on having good time (the official party tent is
coming along). As a result this trip is suitable for people of all
standards, including beginners. For the less experienced or just plain
lazy there is an option to catch a chair up from Thredbo to eliminate the
first 400m vertical. For the more advanced, Rams Head Ridge offers plenty
of hair raising bouldery chutes and the cornice above Cootapatamba hut
should also be quite entertaining.
Let me know if interested as places are limited by the number of cars.
Cheers,
Jiri
